This Cheviot DK yarn has a wonderful bounce, strength and character – expert spinning by The Border Mill, combined with particularly lovely fleeces from Orrinside Flock, results in a yarn that is softer than typically expected for Cheviot. I can comfortably wear it against my skin and think most people would feel likewise.
The Cheviots found here in the Highlands are North Country Cheviots, and especially around the Black Isle, are probably the most commonly seen sheep breed in the area. They are kept primarily for meat but these pretty white faced, black-nosed sheep also have good quality and sturdy wool, sadly something which seems to be mostly forgotten these days. Jane’s very eclectic flock has a core of North Country Cheviots and I have been able to select the best to be spun into this lovely DK weight yarn.
