This is my second year of Killen Sock, a yarn I worked on for over 18 months before the first spin. I am delighted to produce this all natural sock yarn. The Bluefaced Leicester comes from two local flocks, Craigallan and Wester Raddery (both are within a handful of miles of my home on the Black Isle) and, after a lot of trying other options, the mohair comes from South Africa.
You can read more about the journey to producing this special yarn here – as well as explaining the background and testing that went into making Killen Sock (and the hunt for mohair) I talk a little about why I really wanted to develop this all-natural sock yarn.
Killen Sock is spun by The Border Mill.
Killen is intended as a sock yarn but is also suited to beautiful shawls and sweaters! I am delighted that two socks have been designed in this special yarn. The Munlochy Socks by Clare Devine and the Cockle Socks by Katie Green.
