A design collection inspired by the landscape and wool of the Highlands.

Going outside can bring you closer to your inner self. Rooted deeply in the Scottish landscape, these six patterns using naturally dyed Scottish wool take inspiration from outdoor adventures and inward exploration.

The Perspectives collection celebrates the delight of spending time outdoors, especially in the mountains, and the mental reset that even the simplest picnic, walk or swimming adventure in beautiful surroundings can bring.

‘To spend time in these landscapes – infinitely healing, infinitely refreshing – is to spend time deepening your relationship with yourself. The more you immerse yourself in the wonder of the outside world, the more the world falls away, leaving you with the only view that matters: a newly clear perspective on your own life.’

Perspectives is co-edited by Julie Rutter, of Black Isle Yarns, and Emily K Williams, of Flutterbyknits – who, working as friends, draw inspiration from the Scottish Highlands, their home, and from the warm and comforting wool of the local sheep. All six designs are created in Julie’s Auchen yarn which launched earlier this year and is locally grown and naturally dyed. There will be an update of Auchen yarn in the shop following publication of Perspectives in mid November.

As well as the six designs, beautifully photographed by Jeni Reid and illustrations from Katie Green, the book includes essays on ‘The Wool Story’, ‘The Book Story’ and ‘The Places’.

Print copies of Perspectives include a Ravelry download code for a PDF copy. If you’d prefer a PDF copy by email please add a note at checkout.

The patterns are created by a global team of six designers:

Pityoulish Vest – Emily K Williams

Rothiemurchus Cowl – Mieka John

Feshie Shawl – Maddie Harvey

Balvattan Mittens – Julia Billings

Inshriach Hat – Julie Rutter

Eanaich Shawl – Tyne Swedish

Additional thanks goes to Steph Boardman for tech editing and, Clare Shaw and Debbie Muir for sample knitting. Plus Janet, Sally, Deborah, Bella, Jane, Rod, Rory and Muriel whose flocks’ fleece made the yarn Auchen.

The book is available in print and is priced at £15 plus postage (please choose ‘Perspectives Book’ at checkout for postage if purchasing as a single item).
